In the college softball recruiting process, skills videos are a must! However, many families are spending hundreds of dollars to hire a outside company to film, edit, and add features to videos when most college coaches will tell you that a simple iphone video can do the trick more times than not. Below are some tips and must-haves for your skills videos. 1. Don't spend a ton of money! A video on your phone will do! 2. Keep it short (approx. 3 minutes) College coaches receive emails from hundreds to thousands of high school athletes every week and only have a limited amount of time each day that they probably dedicate to watching skills videos. 3. Lead with what you are best at! As a former college coach, yes I watched the skills video that was included in every email that I received, the difference between the ones I would finish and the ones I didn't often was decided in the first 30 seconds. So show them your best stuff and hook em to watch more. 4. Keep it up to date I hope you are always working on your skills and improving your game and with that being said, you want to make sure you are showcasing those skills as they improve.
