Tryout / Compete
•Do Your VIRTUAL Tour, know everything there is to know before you go.
•Email 2 days before camp, no earlier and NEVER later. Use the introduction email and specify the correct coach and camp. Copy your Advocate. Put your link to your page.
•Close your eyes…. TRYOUT
•ALWAYS introduce yourself live to the Coach and indicate that you send an introduction email. Tell them you’ll also send a follow up thank you email so they’ll remember you. Copy Advocate.

• never sit when the coach is talking.....always take a knee when instructed to sit
•engage the current players running the camp.....don't be afraid to speak to them. This reminder had a big impact on Brianna as she actively sought to talk to them to get to know them and the team culture
• eye contact at all times and firm handshake....... I added maintain a strong posture as Brianna has a tendency to slouch which I believe looks very unathletic.
•obvious but already stated - be coachable - the pitching coach, for example, was teaching her how to throw a curve differently than her pitching coach.....she rightfully just kept working at it his way to show her coachability. I would think this reminder is extra important for pitchers that would get anxious about changing mechanics.

sample email
Dear Student Athlete and Family:
The Advocate from CSA Supporting this even is (Name and Cell) PLEASE text this Advocate and let them know you’ve read this email so they will have your cell number for the event.
YOU MUST TEXT this Advocate your cell and state your name or you will not get a text Saturday evening.
The Advocates role is to identify as many coaches attending the event and introduce the list of CSA Student Athletes in attendance.
The Student Athlete Family should also be keeping a list and text it around 3pm to the Advocate at the Event. We need your help here as we are unlikely to see every field and every coach.
PLEASE Help these Advocates as there are many other fields. Parents help us know which College Coaches are at the fields you're at. Text a list to the Advocate by 3pm.
We like to see the Student Athletes play, but highly unlikely since it is more important that we’re identifying coaches.
Advocate or Family take a photo of the check in for the coaches if there is a sign in sheet.
Student Athletes ARE REQUIRED to go back the night of the first day (usually Saturday) and email EVERY Coach that your Advocate identifies as a possible opportunity. Example all ‘22 and ‘23’s are still being reviewed by the D1 coaches.
If your Student Athletes doesn’t take the time to email on Saturday evening they’re missing a huge component to our process that 100% draws coaches to see them play on Sunday.
Remember, we continually adjust our approach from DIRECT feedback from the College Coaches this is what THEY want!
Copy your Advocate and the Advocate at the event with ALL emails. If you’re not sending them it is on you!
Text your Advocate after EVERY GAME and send a photo or video of any ESPN type plays or Home Runs!
Calendars must be updated 3 days before the event listed on the main line – Name of Student Athlete, Exact start time of game and Time Zone game is in, Field Number, Jersey Number, Team Name;
example: Syd Lewis 8am CST Field #2 – Jersey #00 – Texas Glory
PLEASE Text the Advocate that will be representing your event as soon as you get this email and let them know your name and cell so they can text you coaches.
Please share your calendar by going to your settings and “share your calendar” with the Advocate representing you so they can direct Coaches to see you play.
PLEASE have games on Calendar by Tuesday or Wednesday Evening

BEFORE a Student Athletes Goes on Campus - Must have a CALL - Customize these Bullet Points to meet the specific visit and Student Athlete
|
•Be engaged, ask questions especially find out what a daily routine is like for players
•If given the opportunity talk to players/watch their interactions with Coaching Staff •Most of these are unofficial visits. Advocate needs to call and confirm with College Coach and provide a point of contact in addition to their team coach. •CSA or Parents Be in the background, not the leader. We cannot ever attend with the Student Athlete or negotiate their contracts. NCAA rules. •Let us do the promoting of the visit so the language is correct. •Take pictures on your trip. •Enjoy the journey. Build memories. •Offer/No Offer – talk about the options. •Always bring a parent or guardian, never a friend or significant other. •Bring Copy of Transcripts. •Make sure you’ve registered NCAA. •No drinking/no partying, nothing illegal… they’ll test you. •Use your manners. •Write down names of all personnel so you can thank them. •Write handwritten thank you note. •What role will you be playing on the team •Criteria grid. •Go with Girls/Stay with team – don’t go sit with parents •Go to Student Store and buy a shirt or hat |
Phone Call with a Coach
- •Do a virtual tour BEFORE you speak live with the coach.
•Know everything possible about the Team and the Coaches and the Academics.
•Read their press releases on the previous season.
•Google their conference and the “name of sport, school, sport, ncaa standings” and see how they did the previous season
•Look at the roster and see how many student athletes are in each class.
•Ask why do they leave? Ask personal questions of the coach that you cannot find online. Ask what made them interested in you?
•Find out what the next steps are?
•If they ask you who else you’re looking out, either state that you’re not too sure just yet or be REALLY honest as they all know each other.
•Discuss anything that might be of concern with your Advocate before the call.
•The Advocate can “role play” questions.
•Write down your questions….
•Ask with the Next Steps are?
•Start to Create Columns on your Decision Grid

Before you Accept an Offer....
When one of your Student Athletes starts the visits and offer stage, please email this to them. Go over it on the Phone together.
It's that crazy time of year when they all try to go-it-alone
1. Call your Advocate
2. Consider your Options – this is a 40 year Commitment for your Future not just 4 years of College.
a. USE the Decision Grid to evaluate and uncover the pro's and con's.
b. Use the Spreadsheet and add all the columns about what you like or don't like.
c. Evaluate each column on a scale of 1-10
3. Have a Financial column.
a. How much does it cost with Room and Board?
b. What is the Offering from the College?
c. Evaluate EXACTLY how much out of pocket it will cost
d. How will you pay for the rest?
e. Any hidden fees or parking, books?
5. Call your Travel Ball Coach ask if there is any protocol that they follow as a club - tell your club NOT to post until you're finished with all the decline calls to the other coaches.
6. When all the points about have been done then, text a photo of the visit and clip and name of the College to 9496339944 and your Advocate
7. CSA will post THEN the parents can share and promote and add their own Congratulations.
8. Don’t forget to THANK everyone, even your T Ball Coach, Teachers, Coaches, Advocates! It goes along way and leaves a nice lasting impression of your kindness.

So, You’ve Committed to Play in College – Now What?
What to do ONCE you commit:
- Set up a consistent time to text each week so your Coach knows that you're reaching out and keeping them informed as to your progress and this will create constant communication. Put it on your Calendar and be proactively engaging with them. They need to be continuously updated on your growth.
- Get to work… you just got "hired" to be a Student Athlete at the intended University/College. You’re expected to continue your growth in your sport at the rate of your peers and bridging the gap from where you are today to a starting position when you get there.
- Evaluate your workout plan and make sure it is mirrored to what the University/College expects. You should ask your College Coach for a Work Out Plan that will make you GAME READY for the Freshman Season. Be proactive, show you're ready to WORK.
- Start eating and treating your body like a high performing athlete. Ask your Parents to COMMIT to helping you with meals in your home. This needs to be a lifestyle change, you'll appreciate it!
- Make sure you're compliance with NAIA and have sent in all Transcripts and Test Scores.
- Continue texting your Advocate Monthly as we're here for the ENTIRE Journey!
- Review your website. Send email to CollegiateSportsAdvocate@gmail.com with changes.
- The biggest issue with early committing is what is called “Verbal & Vanish”. That is when a Student Athlete commits and then quits the team that they committed with and chooses another team that isn’t performing at the same work rate or preparing you for College. You need be continue to play against the top talent that will prepare you for your layer of the sport. It is a red flag for a College Coach to see the “cruising” or disappearing. You have to BE BETTER than when they recruited you. This is the biggest reason for freshmen not playing or getting cut off the roster! WORK!!! Keep PLAYING DO NOT quit your high school or Travel team as you need to be prepared to PLAY when you get there.
- Keep using your Calendar, keep it updated and master time management! Improve constantly on Time Management, Accountability and Communication skills, these are LIFE Skills!
- Are you connected with your College, Conference and Competitors on Social Media? Stay informed, updated and totally engaged.
- Are you connected with CSA on Social Media?
- Remember, CSA stays with you throughout your college career. We want to help you overcome any challenges and celebrate your successes so continue to text over photos of accomplishments and awards both on the field and in the classroom.
- Keep coming to the Trainings CSA Offers
- Please stay in Touch with CSA we want to provide you whatever resources you need!

What we don’t do
We don’t cold call College Coaches to introduce young players to them. Invite Coaches to see them play. If the Student Athlete isn’t on a team
Going to events where they’ll show up then you need to recommend another team or to attend other tournaments.
We don’t need to get in the car and go meet with people face to face… You’re way to busy for that. A phone works fine.
Have the Student Athletes follow the CSA Steps and EMAIL and invite them to see them play, CSA Does not email an individual coach for a player.
Corporate will do that strategically during the year.
If you feel compelled to help at that level then we’re missing the queues of college recruiting.
We don’t sell with combine numbers unless validated from a Name Recognizable event. That should be sent to CSA for the Website.
The reason the College Coaches like us is because WE understand the layers of the sport and gather feedback from their actions or no actions.
We HAVE to have Video….
The End of the Season Call was designed to provide solid feedback as to their level of play, what coaches showed interest if any, redirect them to
Tournaments and Events to gather feedback.
Send the to a Multi School camp to gather feedback.
When you have a Student Athlete of VALUE to them then they’ll engage with you. Talent level, Tournament Schedule, Team name.

Questions for Student Athletes to Ask College Coaches
- •Do virtual tour first so to make sure you’re not asking obvious questions that are already
Answered.
•What academic resources are provided, tutoring, online..
•How are scholarships handled each year, do they renew, can I earn more

•What are the training facilities like and what resources for alternative healing and medical, how is it paid for?
•Did you already look at all the degree programs and have a couple alternate choices.
•Team demands and requirements.
•What is housing like and do we have to or can we stay longer in the dorms?
•Look into their Coaching Style, philosophy and watch them coach.
•How many graduate, why don’t they?
•How many go on to Post Secondary degrees in my major?

Athlete Gets a Lead from a College
2. When you get a lead for one of your Student Athletes from a College Coach please do the following.
A. Send to your Student Athlete with instructions.
B. They should do a virtual tour
C. They need to call and talk to the Coach whether they think they will like it or not. How do they know if they don't take 5 minutes to chat.
D. They have 48 hrs to do this and connect with the Coach and if they do not we will be less likely to include them in the future.
We HAVE to respect that the College Coaches know better than we do who will be a fit for their program.
If we don't respect it, the Coaches use other resources. They're only responding because we put it out on an Email directly to them.
