Isn’t the point of being a Student Athlete to go to COLLEGE? So why wouldn’t you learn the most material you can learn and improve your measurements needed to get into the College or University. The higher the test scores and grades, the higher the scholarship and the most value you receive from your Education as you’re bringing more value to the team by having great grades and being well educated! You’ll be more prepared for your College courses. Focus on the next degree while going through the undergraduate process and honing your skills. Then when you apply for grad school you’re well prepared and have everything you need to get there.
There are lots of conversations about standardized testing not being fair and equal and I’m sure that there are some that fall into those categories. However, It is the best measuring stick we can use to make sure that a Student Athlete is able to compete in the classroom too. There are far too many differences in teaching styles and curriculum covered across the world of potential students to assume that all grade point averages are created equal. That’s why a solid Grade Point Average (GPA) coupled with an excellent Standardized Test Score (SAT/ACT) is essential for gaining acceptance into the best colleges in the country. If there was no Standardized Test to help evaluate which students could truly thrive in the most demanding academic environments, then relying on the GPA would simply not be enough. It’s the balance of both measurements that showcases a student’s ability to compete. Being a Student Athlete isn’t an opportunity for everyone, it’s really only for the ones that can meet all the standards. There are not enough spots on the teams for everyone who is playing the game today to be on a college roster so they need standards to accept those who can compete academically and athletically. Academics will get you farther and prove longer lasting results so make sure you stay a Student First!
